‘Birdman’ Knife Sheath

This leather knife sheath was found in Blackfriargate in Hull’s Old Town. Waterlogged deposits preserve a remarkable insight into the everyday lives of ordinary people in medieval Hull. Finds include shoes, plates, fish vats, coffins, and even parts of a medieval Baltic sailing ship used to patch up the Old Harbour waterfront.
