Wooden Canisters

These two wooden canisters were set over the headmaster’s desk and chair at Hull Grammar School. They formed part of the refurbishment of the schoolroom in the 1660s by Headmaster John Catlyn and are inscribed in Latin with the mottos “Knowledge is Power” and “Learning is Wealth”.
