A highlight of our community exhibitions programme for 2018 is First World War Lives. During the 2014 – 2018 Centenary, East Riding Archives and a team of volunteers began a project researching the history of men from the East Riding who served in the First World War. The Archives hold hundreds of photographs of servicemen in the collection.
Over the last 4 years, many stories have been discovered. The exhibition explores how the project helped improve the knowledge of the collections, some examples of the interesting and often tragic stories discovered from the research, and how to find out more about researching the First World War, family, and local history.
