Dr Melanie Giles joins us at Hull Museums to give a lecture on the Iron Age burials of the Yorkshire Wolds.

East Yorkshire is famous for its spectacular Iron Age burial rites, and the rich range of grave goods which these communities interred with their dead. During her talk, ‘The Chariot, the Sword and the Mirror’, Dr Giles will explore some of the most beautiful and awe-inspiring finds from 200 years of discovery, and examine the fascinating stories of the people behind them.

Dr Melanie Giles is a senior lecturer in Archaeology at the University of Manchester. She has specialised in researching Iron Age communities, particularly square barrow burials of East Yorkshire, Celtic art and Iron Age material culture.

The event will take place on Thursday 6 July at the Wilberforce Institute, 27 High Street, HU1 1NE (in front of the Museums Quarter). Doors open at 5.30pm and the talk starts at 6pm. Admission is £5, payable on the door. Refreshments included.
