About the Event

As part of Joann’s research into the ancient Egyptian collections of Yorkshire, she reveals how the mummies within the county have inspired medical advancements, political policy, Victorian architecture and even Gothic fiction.

About the Speaker

Professor Joann Fletcher was born in Barnsley in 1966, and works in the department of archaeology at York University. As well as being an Egyptologist, she is also a best-selling author and a popular broadcaster both on TV and radio. At the moment, Professor Fletcher is currently presenting Immortal Egypt on BBC2. Her research is focused on the Egyptology collections of Hull and East Riding Museums, Wakefield Museum, the Hancock Museum, Scarborough’s Rotunda Museum and York Museums’ Trust.
