Humber Museums Partnership - Family Activities Summer 2018

This summer, we have a variety of activities and events to keep kids of all ages entertained during the holidays. Please be advised that all children attending our activities are accompanied and supervised by an adult at all times. We also recommend arriving early, as some activities have proven to be very popular and, as a result, can become quite busy. The last thing we want is for anybody to be disappointed!

 

Here is a list of everything that is taking place between July and September:

Big Bus Day

 

Streetlife Museum

Saturday 8th September, 10:00am – 4:00pm

FREE

This family fun day has become one of the most popular dates in our museum calendar, and for good reason! The day includes a chance to go on board a wide selection of modern and heritage buses, free open top bus tours, face painting, children’s activities, the EYMS brass band and much more. In partnership with East Yorkshire Motor Services.

Mini Masterpieces

Ferens Art Gallery – Studio

  • Tuesday 31st July – Printing
  • Tuesday 7th August – Clay
  • Tuesday 14th August – Painting
  • Tuesday 21st August – Drawing

All sessions take place from 10am – 11:30am.

£1.50 per child.

Mini Masterpieces is aimed at children aged 2 to 5 and their families. We explore different artistic materials and methods to encourage early creativity. Please wear old clothes, as it could get messy!

Participants at Mini Masterpieces can also take part in the Creative Familities Award (Arts Award for 0-4s). Ask a staff member on the day for details.

 

 

3-7 year olds

 

Bagpuss and Clangers: Story Telling Sessions

Ferens Art Gallery – Gallery 4

Friday 27th July, 11:00am, 1:00pm and 3:00pm

FREE

Join us for stories inspired by our Clangers, Bagpuss & Co. exhibition, taking us on journeys with animals, through time and maybe even to space!

Suitable for accompanied children age 3-11 years. Place are limited, so please arrive early to avoid disappointment. Participants at this story telling session can also take part in the Creative Families Award (Arts Award for 0-4s) Ask a member of staff on the day for details.

Get hands on with our archaeology collections in a unique opportunity to handle objects from the museum stores.

 

 

Gallery Talk: Anglo Saxons

Join a member of our collections team in the Anglo-Saxon gallery for a fascinating insight into early Medieval life in East Yorkshire.

 

 

Gallery Talk: A Portrait of Classical Women

Explore the Roman galleries with one of our curators, focussing on the depiction and presentation of femininity in our fabulous mosaics.

 

 

Ferry Crafty

Hull Maritime Museum

Join us to explore the surprising and unusual history of the ferry MV Norland through a variety of family craft activities. Funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund as part of the Hull Yorkshire Maritime City project.

 

 

Vehicle Sun Prints

Flower Power

Wilberforce used to walk around with flowers in his pocket. Take inspiration from him and the Wilberforce garden, and create your own pocket flower.

William Wilberforce loved animals and was a co-founder of the RSPCA. Take inspiration from him, and create your own animal to take home.

Puppet Making
