Hull Fair Project

Humber Museums Partnership - Hull Fair Project

About the project

Whether you love it or hate it, most people in Hull will have an opinion about the fair. You might remember having your photograph taken with monkeys, or receiving a goldfish as a prize on the hook-a-duck. Maybe you remember Chicken Joe, boxing booths and the Wall of Death! Or perhaps you’re more interested in the candy floss and the rides?

With input from school children, community groups in Hull, social media, residents of Walton Street and showmen families from Hull and beyond, the exhibition has tried to gather a broad spectrum of opinions and memories to show exactly what it is that makes Hull Fair so special.

This exhibition draws together photographs, stories and artwork submitted by showpeople and the people of Hull, to celebrate a fixture in the city’s calendar.
