William Wilberforce was known as the ‘Nightingale of the House of Commons’- famous for skillfully singing abolitionist songs at dinner parties and meetings.
The Boomalay Sea Shanty choir will once again fill the Wilberforce House gardens with song on July 23rd with a performance of sea shanties, abolition songs and poetry about Hull’s maritime history.
The Boomalay Sea Shanty Choir is a London based community choir who were formed out of the Trad Academy Sea Shanty Choir. Their members are from across the UK and several countries, and the group enjoy singing in a range of languages including French, Swedish and Cornish! They are delighted to be sharing these rousing and moving songs in the City of Culture this summer, and will also be performing at the Hull Maritime Folk Festival.
