The 1860s was an extremely turbulent decade characterised by numerous cultural, social and political upheavals, astonishing discoveries and feats of human endeavour. Against all this, on July 31st 1862, Yarburgh Lloyd Greame of Sewerby applied for a passport which would signal the globe-trotting travels to come. On July 22nd 1864, he arrived in Boston, Massachusetts aboard the SS Europa and so began an exciting journey across the Americas and Canada. From letters Yarburgh wrote home, we will follow him on his travels against tumultuous global events occurring all around during this fascinating decade. Open daily until 30th October 2016.
